The club has received funding from Local Councillor Joan Spicer, who used some of her ‘local project’ money to help the club purchase some sets of Junior bowls. The picture on the left shows her presenting a cheque for £500 to Club Treasurer Paul Cook ably assisted by members of the Priory Scout group.  Other members can be seen holding the bowls.

Ixworth welcomed bowlers from all over Suffolk to the 2017 SCBA County Finals.  A good crowd on both days witnessed some excellent bowling.

After winning the County Veterans Singles, Paul Cook represented the County at the National finals in Skegness.  For Paul this was a new experience and it proved to be a very successful one.

While five entrants have a bye into the second round, Paul was one of those who had to play in round one.  His first ever game at Skegness proved to be an up and down affair.  His opponent T. Harley of North Cambridgeshire took an early lead, bur Paul kept in contention by some good bowling and then went ahead in the latter stages to win the tie 21-17.  In the second round a more comfortable victory against Northumberlands R. Swinburn by 21 shots to 13 gave him a semi-final appearance later in the day, a match he won by beating R. Cox from Humberside 21-18 and so the Final awaited.

The Final against B. Warters from Northamptonshire proved to be a good one with both players bowling well it was a very tight affair, and they reached what proved to be the final end all square at 19 shots each.  Pauls first bowl was a good one about six inches past the jack, his opponents first bowl was also a good one touching Pauls and falling away from the head, finishing about 12 inches away.  Still holding shot Paul bowled his second bowl finishing about six inches in front of the jack, and was now holding the two shots needed for the game.  Mr. Warters now had an important decision to make, try to draw and either take the shot or at least get second, or play with weight to either remove one or both of Pauls bowls or destroy the head by forcing the jack out of  rink.  He decided on the weight option and to the relief of the Suffolk supporters failed to make contact with anything,  and Paul had won a National Title on his very first Skegness appearance.
